I have a Lasko tower heater that I love. So, I decided to buy this tower fan. I have had it for a few days now. It is not quite what I expected. It came with a scratch on its side, which made me wonder if this was a fan someone returned, but the scratch is small enough that I figured I can live with it. It is pretty good as far as cooling the space even just at level 1 setting. However, it is not as quiet as I was hoping. Even on level 1, it is a bit noisier than I hoped for at night time. Also, the remote control does not always work well. Sometimes, I have to hit a button twice for it to send the signal to the fan or maybe the fan's sensor is not working well in receiving the signal. As far as the "night-time" feature is concerned, I think that is just a useless, but nicely-advertised feature. It is advertised that this feature dims the lights on the fan by 50%. It does no such thing on mine. There is no difference on brightness of the indicator lights when the fan is in night-time mode. When you hit the night-mode button, it takes the fan speed setting up to 3 and lights up the level 3 indicator plus the night-time mode indicator, which increase the lights on the fan. The lights are small and not bothersome to me, but lighting up more indicators on the fan defeats the whole purpose of "night-time" feature. And how is level 3, which is the noisiest setting, the right setting for night-time mode? If I could tolerate the noise at level 1 setting, I would just keep it at that level when I wanted to sleep. I certainly would not be able to fall asleep on level 3 or 2 setting. I think there should have been more thought put into the night-time mode feature. So, because of this useless feature and the noise level, I am giving this fan 4 stars for now. I will update this review if I find anything else worth mentioning over the next few weeks. This is probably the third or fourth tower fan I've bought. (We rarely move one with us, but give each to a neighbor who'd appreciate it.) I usually choose the Lasko brand because the one time we needed customer support, they were tremendously helpful... even generous. This fan comes nearly fully assembled. Its few pieces fit together easily. A single person can do this in less than five minutes, without needing much strength. It's also light enough to tote from one location to another, carrying it with one hand. What I love is how wide the path of the fan is as it rotates. It's at least a 180-degree swing. When the weather is beastly hot, this boosts the cooling effect of our air conditioner.I also like the white noise it creates, naturally. It's not too loud, but enough to muffle street noises and the ruckus whenever our upstairs neighbors are stomping or working out. Or whatever they're doing. The remote control is very good. However, if I wake during the night and want to adjust the settings, all the buttons feel alike. So, I have to count carefully the slightly raised buttons. The top one is power. The third one from the top is the rotation. The bottom button is for the nighttime setting. And so on.If I were to buy another tower fan, I might choose this brand and style, but with an ionizing feature. The latter is convenient for getting unpleasant odors out of a room. In our old apartment, I'd used that to clear the air after I'd seared food on the stove, or if I'd used especially smelly adhesives for a crafts project. For the price, this fan is an exceptionally good value. Between the features (especially the remote control) and Lasko's customer service, I'm confident you'll like this fan.The Lasko 42" Wind Curve (wih ionizer) is a very good fan and is powerful enough for 20 x 20 foot room. The tall height works well in a bedroom where one might need to feel the breeze a bit higher while laying on a high mattress. You can also adjust the top portion of the vent up or down for your needs. The remote is handy for just such an occasion as well. The Lasko was very quiet despite its powerful breeze. The base is sturdy and I have experienced no rattling.I compared the Lasko fan to the Holmes 32" Oscillating Tower Fan and there was no comparison. The Holmes fan was too short to generate a breeze above my bed where I needed it. The power of the fan was also extremely weak in general--especially since it was being advertised as a whole house fan. Essentially, Holme's most powerful breeze was equivalent to the lowest setting on the Lasko. The interface was confusing. And there also was no remote. The Holmes base is sturdy and I experienced no rattling.I also compared the Lasko to the Sunter 40" Tower Fan (2 Pack Combo with a 13" Personal Fan). While I preferred the look of the Lasko (the silver color made it more versatile for both dark and light color themes), the truth is, of all three, the Sunter was the most powerful--though maybe only a step above. The 40" height was still high enough to reach over the bed where I needed it. Its top portion of the vent is not adjustable up-and-down like the Lasko--but most fans don't have that feature. The Sunter was fairly quiet, but not as quiet as the Lasko. The remote appears chintzier than the Lasko's but it turns out Sunter's remote range is stronger than the Lasko's. The Sunter base is sturdy and I experienced no rattling. However, I did experience vibration and rattling with its bonus personal 13" fan that came with it.Of all three fans, the Lasko was the easiest to assemble. I felt the Lasko was the most attractively versatile with its silver finish. Both the Lasko and Sunter have an easy interface to understand. Both were sturdy and did not rattle. The Lasko has the quietest breeze, with the Sunter a close quiet second. However, the Sunter offered the strongest breeze, with Lasko being a close second. Both were good for 20 x 20' rooms. The Lasko offers three speed settings; the Sunter offers four speed settings. Both offer timers. The Lasko offers an ionizer feature which is nice; however, the Sunter offers an interesting evening breeze feature. (The evening breeze feature tapers off the breeze to the next lowest level every half an hour as you drift off to sleep--VERY nice.)Finally, [at the time of this review] the Lasko costs $56.52 on Amazon; while the Sunter costs $39.99 at Costco (or $44.32 on Amazon). The $16 higher price for the Lasko dramatically altered my star rating for the product down to a 4-star. And since the Sunter is fairly comparable (with a bonus fan) at a dramatically cheaper price, I am posting a 5-star for the Sunter as a best-buy.We bought this floor fan because it was recommended by Amazon and some of the reviews were very positive. There were some negative reviews but I thought sometimes that happens. We have central air conditioning but do like to have additional air movement during the warmer months. This fan is more expensive than most and we were shocked to see that it is made completely of plastic. It worked well for three nights so we threw out the box. On the fifth night the floor fan stated having this constant grinding noise. There is a long round cylinder inside the fan with pleated cardboard that is covered with a plastic mesh. This turns and creates the wind and also causes the noise. The grinding is constant and we cant sleep. Very poorly made product for the cost. We will be sending it back when I can find a box.No compren un ventilador de torre como este si buscan tener buen aire. El precio es carísimo para tan poca velocidad que maneja. El aparato es elegante y vistoso, eso sí, pero lo que uno busca es refrescarse no tomarle una foto.I bought this fan for the bedroom. I had a Garrison stand fan for five years 24/7 that was whisper quiet but died on me and this model was no longer available (not bought online but in CT). As soon as I connected this one, I was shocked at how loud the fan/motor sound was but figured the other one I had was just exceptionally quiet and that I'd get used to this new sound.... nope just annoyed the heck out of me every night. Then almost to the day of the window of return it started making a ratting noise that just got louder and was very annoying; ended up throwing it out and buying another smaller tower fan at CT for $40 and this one is so quiete I don't even hear it.Maybe I got dealt a faulty one but no matter what setting I put this thing on there's a low electrical "hum" that's relatively loud separate from the fan noise.I have another THD generic 40in'tower fan that was only $60, more or less blows the same amount of air without the nerve racking hum. The fan is louder but way less annoying.
