I'm at a bit of a loss to give this product a good review. I ordered three of them. They look exactly like the picture here on Amazon but if you look at this picture, it doesn't have the HOUR/RND button that a lot of reviewers are talking about. (there is a user posted picture with the HOUR/RND button but that's not what I received) From what I can tell, there are two models out there . . . an older 15150 and a newer 15154. Everybody seems to be saying that the newer model has the random feature and that holding the HOUR/RND button for three seconds turns it on. The model pictured above doesn't have the /RND part. Just the HOUR part. The ones I received are like this, no /RND, portion to the HOUR button . . . but on the packaging it clearly lists the part number as 15154 and on the unit itself, the sticker on the back shows 15154. I really want to think that I have a random timer but I can't, for the life of me, toggle the random feature on. I've tried holding the HOUR button down for 3 seconds (actually as long as 10 and 20 seconds as well) along with doing the same with other buttons wondering if perhaps something else might work. Interestingly enough, when I press the reset button down for a few seconds and the unit display goes blank, when it "reboots", for lack of a better term, all of the symbols on the LCD show up for just a second. During this moment I can see an "R" symbol to the right of the time display, similar to where the RND symbol is supposed to appear according to other reviews. I can't, however, seem to make this appear with any combination of button pushes for any duration of time. I'd like to give this timer a better review but because I can't seem to activate the random function and from what the Amazon image looks like, it appears that I got what I ordered (product model # 15154) Has anybody else had this problem? Is there a step that I'm missing? Please comment if you can help me figure these out. The manual says nothing about a random feature, even though it lists both the 15150 and 15154 product numbers. I'm hoping somebody will comment with some helpful advice on how to activate the random feature before I return them to Amazon.Update: 9/16/2012So I returned one of these to Amazon. They were great about the process and a new one quickly showed up. Sadly, however, the new one was exactly the same as the one I had returned. No /RND function on the HOUR button. Same 15154 product number. At this point I believe the manufacturer has screwed up and provided Amazon with a batch of mislabeled products. I think these timers that I'm getting are the 15150 timers labeled as 15154s. I've changed my review from a one star to a three star because as a timer it works quite well and it seems a little unfair to kill the rating of the product itself for what seems like a manufacturer packaging error. I'll keep trying to return them and get the one with the random feature that's advertized. Amazon - if anybody is reading this, you've got to update the photo for your product on the webpage and return the mislabeled products. My review isn't the only one that is complaining about this particular snafu. This is a really good timer and a definite upgrade from my old analog timer where you have to push/pull buttons to make it work. This one has 20 pairs of memory slots to toggle power on/off and each programmed slot can hold 2-5 days including a weekend and weekday function. The programs can be overriden by pushing the on/off button. The on/off button must be left in an AUTO position for the programs to resume. There is a random button on this that I haven't tried yet. The only downside to this timer is that it only has 1 plug...however, it doesn't hinder you from being able to use the other plug on your outlet as it isn't as large as the picture makes it seem. What I did was plug this into a power strip that is under my bed and then plugged my daylight lamp into the timer. I then set the timer to turn on at 5 AM M-F to help get me out of bed as an alarm. The lamp is also my reading lamp on my bedstand, so if the light turns off at night before I'm done reading I can easily turn the light back on by just reaching under my bed and pressing the ON/OFF button twice. Then before I go to bed I press the ON/OFF button twice again so that it turns OFF AUTO and will resume my program.EDIT:Liked this so much I bought another for one of my other alarms. My Raspberry Pi mini computer streams internet music when the lights go on in the morning. I have the pi setup with crontabs to power down each morning and then I have this GE timer set to turn off the power to the pi an hour later and then turn it back on when I get home from work. I plugged the timer into a surge protector that I have on my bureau so that I can easily see when I programmed it to turn the pi on and off. This is a decent digital timer. It allows 20 different daily on/off hour/minute settings. Each of these on/off settings can be applied to different weekday and/or weekend combinations so that I can have different daily program with some or all of these 20 on/off settings for each day of the week which means it can have at most weekly 7x20 on/off settings. It has internal chargeable battery so I don't need to worry about the power outage to mess up my settings, or replacing batteries. If not used as a timer it can be simply used as a digital clock. It is specified at 8 A and 125 V for general use which means you cannot connect it to an appliance that consumes more than 1000 W. It is also specified at 125 V and 5 A for Tungsten, which equals to 625 W. I am not sure about what Tungsten is, maybe some welding thing? Anyway, before connecting an appliance to it, make sure it doesn't exceed its specification. A lamp or a cooker should be fine, but for a heater, it may burn this timer. Also, this timer has only polarized 2-prong socket, which means if your appliance's power cord has a 3-prong plug, then this is not for you.One thing needs to point out is the instruction paper is not accurate about how to operate the timer. It mentions three settings: ON to remain on and ignore user's setting, OFF to remain off and ignore user's setting, and AUTO to follow user's settings. But actually when I click "ON/OFF" button, it will recycle the operating modes as ON, AUTO ON, OFF, AUTO OFF. There is no "AUTO" mode but either "AUTO ON" or "AUTO OFF" modes. If you set the operation mode to "AUTO OFF", although your lamp is off right now, the timer will turn it on when your next on setting time arrives and keep following any future on/off settings. If you set the operation mode to "AUTO ON", then it is on now, and will be turned off when the next Off setting time arrives and then follow any future on/off settings. I am adding this comment to avoid any confusion that you may have. In addition, before clicking "ON/OFF" button to set "AUTO OFF" mode to let timer be in charge of your lamp or other appliance, click "ON/OFF" button to reach "ON" mode to see if you lamp can be turned on to avoid a mistake that you forget to turn the switch of your lamp on. Also, you'd better carefully check all your on/off settings to make sure AM/PM of the setting times are that you intended because it's easy to make mistakes. Overall, I highly recommend this digital timer based on the build quality and all the features it has. Funciona bien. Hay que leer bien el manualThis is exactly what I was looking for. A timer to replace those old rotary type 24 hr timers which can consume more energy than the actual appliance they are controlling. Amazon .ca descriptions are always very poor, but this unit has up to 20 different programs available. You can set a different program for every day of the week. It even has a daylight savings time feature. There is an internal backup battery, so the unit will keep all of your settings and the time if the power goes out. It's neither difficult or confusing to programme, but I fount it a bit cumbersome as well as time-consuming to programme more than 10 on/off settings or modify the existing settings slightly and frequently because the clock can't go backwards so if I inadvertently pass the time I'm intended to set to, I'll have to go all the way around the clock again to set it right. I wish the clock setting gets improved and allow user to go bak and forth. However, this timer works very well overall. It doesn't look offensive as some timers. The Daytime savings and Random features are nice. For the price, it's a very good buy.
