The Smart Coop Door can be powered with 12-volt batteries or electric, depending on your preference. The automatic chicken coop door can also be upgraded to solar power for an additional cost. Another feature of this door is its programmable options and modes, making it a completely automatic door. I ordered this automatic chicken coop door after noticing it looked just like the automatic doors they sell on the OverEz Chicken Coop site, but it was almost $100 less on Amazon so I thought it was worth it to take a chance. Turns out it is the exact same door so it was a perfect fit for my medium OverEz chicken coop! Literally a five minute install---just four screws to mount it, plug it in to a power outlet, set the clock and the open and close schedule, and you're done.This door is super heavy-duty and built like a tank using stainless steel and composite wood so it should not rust or rot, and is hand assembled in the USA by the Amish-run manufacturing company, Pet Auto Doors, LLC. Each unit comes with a unique serial number. It has a clock and schedule memory function that remembers all your settings in the event of a power outage, and was engineered into a single piece so that installation is a breeze. The door is designed so that it won't crush a chicken that might be sleeping under the door when it closes, which was a very important requirement when I was looking for an automatic door. Additionally, the company is working on a Wi-Fi module that can be easily added-on in the future, but it was not available yet at the time of this review. So far, the door has worked flawlessly, and I am very impressed by the build quality. The linear actuator that opens and closes the door is quiet enough so that it doesn't scare our chickens, and it opens and closes at a slow enough rate so they have plenty of time to get out of the way if they happen to be under it. The buttons on the control panel can be pushed using a broom handle or similar tool which is a nice touch so that I don't need to crawl into a dirty coop to manually open or close the door or change the schedule.While it is not the cheapest automatic door available, for something built this well and hand-assembled in the USA, in my opinion it was totally worth the money---you definitely get what you pay for. Bottom line: if you are looking for an all-in-one automatic door for your chicken coop (especially if you own an OverEz coop), you'll be hard-pressed to find one better than this.
