This little guy is a life saver for privacy in a house with paper thin walls, both from noise inside the room or not hearing what's outside the room. We lived very close to a highway and this device helps cancel out the excess noise from outside. Likewise the sounds themselves are are effective doesn't sound like a pre-recorded track or sound. I use the fan sound exclusively as I don't enjoy the white noise. (Not the devices fault, just don't like the sound of static.) I've used this device for quite sometime now and it is essential for my sleep.This is an amazing, sturdy white noise machine. I had a couple or cheap ones to see if I like it, very quickly I realized I will never be able to sleep without white noise anymore. I decided to upgrade to a fancier one and definitely wanted one with brown noise. This machine was a great choice, lots of fan noises and different color noises. I live in a place where dogs can bark for hours at night, I am so happy I can finally get some good rest.Helps drown outside noises, and it's soothing.After 4 yrs of almost 24x7 usage, it is still going strong. Husband and I work opposite shifts. This has been a life-saver.We tried several white noise generators, and most loop, waking us up when they pause or make different noises. This is by far the best sounding white noise machine. It does not make nature noises or anything (which we didn't need). It does one thing, really well: Perfect, soothing sound to help us sleep! Works Great!So good, we bought the travel version (LectroFan Micro2).NOTE: this noise machine does NOT have batteries, it must be plugged in. So we use this one at home, and for travel, we are using the Micro2, which is not as loud, but works great.I’m a very light sleeper, so it is imperative that all noise is drowned out while I’m sleeping & this little machine works perfectly. Trying to sleep during the day after working very long, busy nights at the hospital I can’t afford to lose sleep for any reason. This little machine works better than any I’ve ever had!!I am nearly 70 and have always had good hearing, but over the past many years my hearing has become more and more sensitive. My hearing test last year rated me as A+. My hearing is so keen that I cannot tolerate what I call unnecessary noise. If I’m in church, people talking and babies crying irritates me to the point that I have to leave or move my seat. If I were relaxing at home, I would be angered by noise from neighbors. I have had to move into an assisted living center due to my old age complications, and the noise from other residents – TVs and music coming from their rooms – was driving me crazy to the point where I would honestly rather be dead than continue living like that. Worse yet, was the amount of noise coming from the working staff! Between shifts or on breaks, they could be heard whooping and hollering it up with rauckus laughter halfway across the building! They didn’t care that some of the residents may be sleeping or resting. They would even yell to each other up and down the halls rather than go closer to each other and talk in a normal voice. I can’t impress upon anybody how I hated this place and having to be here because of the noise. I did not like having someone else’s TV or music blocking my enjoyment of my own TV or preventing me from resting or sleeping peacefully.Then my brother Informed me of this wonderful, magical little machine. It is like the difference between night and day in my room as well as in my head! No longer do I hear even a peep coming from the hallway or from other residents’ rooms. I am in blissful heaven! The only sound I hear is a fan since that is the setting I have chosen. I can easily adapt to the sound of a loud fan in my room. It’s not the same as having total silence, but after a while I don’t even notice the fan sound at all. I have it on 24/7. I cannot recommend this sound machine highly enough for anyone who is trying to block out noise!It’s important to note, that the machine has to be set between you and the offending noise. I have it between my recliner and the door to my room, but when I’m in the bathroom on the other side of the room, I can hear the noise coming from the hallway. So, you may need to have two separate machines going if you have noise coming from more than one direction. It will be money well spent, though!Amazing product! Love the different levels of “static”. Loud enough to drown out the noise of our kids when they try to wake us.In all my years of buying on Amazon, this product may just be the product that had THE greatest benefit to my life and all for less than £50. Travelling often with work and living in Central London, getting a good night sleep is far from a certainty. I bought this product after moving in with friends temporarily in Soho - where it often felt like the party was taking place in my room. After doing some research, I chose the LectroFan and had satisfaction from the very first night of use. It is actually surprising just how effective this little device is at masking external sounds at whichever frequency. As you are able to choose from quite a number of different fan and white noise sounds, this device allows you to pick the setting to best suit your situation. The fact that the LectroFan does not use a loop - but rather creates sounds realtime using an algorithm - means that your ear adjusts far better to the sound as your brain believes it to be real (a small detail perhaps - but I thought it worthy of note). As previously mentioned, I travel frequently with my work and this device always comes along with me. It doesn't matter how nice a hotel is - you can always be unlucky and get a room that backs onto a train line or in an area with a busy nightlife. LectroFan now makes these considerations unimportant as any outside noise can be masked.Like a lot of people who live in flats we have elephants for upstairs neighbours. The elephants above us don't sleep, ever, so they are stomping around at every hour of the day and night. Up to now my wife and I have been using ear plugs to sleep, which are uncomfortable and not always that effective.This is the first and only white noise machine we have had. It does take some getting used to; at first we put in ear plugs as well as having it on, and it took a little while to get used to having this noise constantly in the room. However after just a few nights we didn't need the ear plugs, hardly notice the noise, can quite easily get off to sleep and aren't disturbed in the middle of the night by noisy neighbours! In all honesty we're pretty light sleepers as well, so this is a great result.The product comes with a few adapters including UK plug and a good choice of fan and white noises. It goes quite loud as well so will cover a lot of intrusive sounds.Another review mentions a very high pitched whistling sound it makes when it's turned off and plugged in, it is true but it's the sort that a lot of plugs/electrical products make when they have a current running through it. It may be louder for younger people (it is a very high pitch) but for a lot people it would probably be out of their hearing range anyway.In summary if you are struggling to get to sleep or are getting woken up by noisy neighbours, I would definitely recommend this, it may be a bit strange at first but you will soon notice the difference.We've had a Dohm for 4 years and I decided to give this a go, as it's handy for travel, uses USB power source (so can run off my laptop, meaning one less socket), and produces an array of sounds.One major disappointment:The fan noises have a whine in the background, be it mechanical or electrical. This is very annoying making them all useless to me, and hence 50% of the functionality is lost.Minor dissapointments:The sound does not fade in or out, it just cuts off. This is jarring.The power connection on the unit is barrel, not micro-USB. This is just stupid, and likely a cost-saving exercise.The connection is on the underside, rather than one of the vertical sides for some reason.There is no ability to update the unit (eg. above point).The white noises, however, are pretty good. I would never use the high-pitched ones, though perhaps they are aligned to extreme tinnitus sufferers.Compared to Dohm:Dohm produces a clean, ubiquitous noise, that really does fill the room as advertised.Dohm has no electrical or mechanical noise (unless it gets incredibly dusty or the bearings go).Dohm is mains supplied, so uses more power.Overall the Lectrofan is very convenient, but let down by poor recordings and some simple oversights as above. I have found one white noise that replicates almost what Dohm produces, however, there's still a low hum that I can hear even with this. It's good enough though, so I'll be keeping it to use for travelling and when sleeping in the spare room.Ideally this unit would cycle between rain, *clean* white noises, and *clean* fan noises. Perhaps that's for the next version.I have neighbours who play their music a lot, the music doesn’t bother me it’s the freaking BASE which is so loud, it drives me insane!They are lovly neighbours and do stop using the base when I moan but but as the walls are so thin you can hear everything no matter what....think I’m just sensitive to any noise in general anyway this is a great product for blocking the base out when they have the base on I put this on loud depending on the room I’m on to block the nose it helps.... it is worth the money, Im considering buying one for each room in the flat another bonus is it also calms you down before sleep so if you have problems sleeping you can set this on a timer.Highly recommend this product!They give you some adapters/ plug things, I didn’t have the patience to work out how to us the plug thing, so just plugged the wire into My iphone charger plug.To put it plainly, this little device saved me from having to move house! Nearly two years ago I moved into my new home; a new home which unfortunately came with the night time 'hum'. For those of you who don't know what 'the hum' is, it is a low frequency rumbling sound which can travel right through a house or confined space. Statistically, only around 1 in 50 people are sensitive to it! My particular hum is caused by the local telecoms base station, about 300 metres away on the hill.I had six months of miserable, agonising sleepless nights, and with no escape from this noise, and no other method of sound muffling working, I made the heart-breaking choice to sell up and move on, much to the chargrin of myself and my partner. But salvation was only as far away as the press of a button!The Lectrofan didn't seem to work for me at first, but after a few weeks experimenting with settings and correct positioning of the device, I found just the right mode which both blocked the hum and allowed me to drift off to sleep. Only those who know what it's like to have a peaceful night after so many months of stress can really appreciate the blessed relief!Now, as a regular user of the device, I pretty much know it intimately. I gave four stars for the fact that it solved my problem like nothing else could . I would give five stars had there been a few simple features such as LED readouts for the modes (e.g. 1-10 white noise sounds, and 1-10 fan sounds) and readouts for the volume so it can be easily reset. Unfortunately the device has a tendency to default to a certain mode and volume when power is cut without switching it off, therefore using a timer plug is not easy. The device does have a handy hour on timer, but as I keep it under the bed, this is not easy to reach. A wireless version with a remote control would be brilliant!All in all, I consider this a brilliant purchase. Worth its weight in gold for any hum sufferer!
