I bought Melnor on a whim because I was tired of the "Orbit" similar product I bought at Home Depot or Lowe's'. I had about 5 Orbits, and they all broke down within a year, and some malfunctioned as well! For example, if the battery was low, the Orbit would turn on but not shut off. Sor far, the first Melnor I bought has lasted well over a year, and still working perfectly on the original set of batteries. This is a much better product than the equivalent Orbit. Easy to operate too. I use them mostly to water the foundation, so I need a reliable product. I also use them to water what is not under irrigation.I bought this to irrigate two garden areas from the same spigot in my yard. Having previously used basically the same Melnor unit but with a single zone, I expected this to operate in a similar manner. However, the programming is much more difficult than it needs to be, specifically when using the device in Manual mode (such as setting up sprinklers; a couple of minutes on to watch the coverage pattern, then off to make adjustments). Definitely not intuitive like the single zone type. Maybe because this particular model is advertised as "International", and comes with labelling and instructions in both English and French has something to do with it (that was all that was available when I ordered).Nevertheless, Once the programming is done, it's been very reliable, and seems to be pretty well constructed. This 1-zone timer is easy to set. It can be turned off at any time or programmed for rain delay if you do not want it to run for several days. Manual watering can turned on easily and is a big improvement over the previous model. I gave it a 4 rating because it is not as easy to use as the older model that had everything listed down the screen.Just like so many other reviewers I had a valve that stayed open right out of the box. I read some troubleshooting tips for a different Melnor timer. It said:1. Turn off the water.2. Unplug the control unit from the valve unit.3. Plug it back in.4. Turn the water back on.As simple as that sounds, it worked! All valves now open and close correctly.I especially love the knob to turn 1 valve on manually, that is much easier than trying to do it with the controller.I'm only 1 day in, but so far it's pretty good.I love this product because I'm able to have two separate hoses going from the same faucet that's pre-programmed to run at the same time every morning. If you're not looking to spend money on a whole sprinkler system, this makes it easy as you can program the time your water runs, the frequency (i.e. daily, every 2 days, etc.), and the duration it runs for (i.e. 60 min). It's hard to beat for the price. Very easy to use as well. There's also a manual mode if you want to run your water off cycle. You can also set the timer for how long the manual run goes for.I bought two of these. I loved them. very easy to use setting times etc., very user friendly. BUT, this year only one works!! I brought them both into the garage last fall. Removed the batteries, and stored them away. Hooked them up this spring, one works, one is dead to the world! Why can't anything be made to last a few years anymore. Soooo....tired of cheap crap!! Not cheap to buy, cheaply made. Makes me hesitate to purchase any more products from this company!!I have since contacted Melnor about what happened. They immediately contacted me and are sending me a replacement! I never expected this. I have changed my opinion and will buy many more products from this company that has such excellent customer service!I have used a Melnor timer for years......this one is on the same par as the other two I have. I love how easy it is to use and set up! The only thing that I miss is the separate rain detector that is plugged into the underbelly of the device that stops it from working if it detects rain.....as now you need to go out and press the delay on it for a day of more....just another step that on the older model was taken care of ........not a big deal but being 73 would have helped. This unit is a different a buy as I would recommend it 150%!It worked great for the first year, then started leaking from the inside, not from the connection point to the hose. If I want to use it, I have to waste water! Fixing it would involve taking it apart? Doesn’t seem like a good option...These work well with minimal impact to water pressure, however there are aspects to programming that are a but awkward. Once setup, they work quite well. The delay feature is handy. That said, it caused a horrific “dying moose” sound during testing for a few minutes when opening ip water flow. Not good at 5am. A few fiddly adjustments to reduce vibration back through the water pipes made that go away, but make sure you don’t have that problem before letting it run on the program. Seriously. Moose at 5am will mess up your whole day. Ya hasta adquirí un segundo aparato pues estoy convencido del funcionamientoThis new timer is easy to install and program. Works great but install with plumbers tape to avoid leaks.First the good... It is easy to set up and install. Now the bad... After two weeks, and after a light rain, it was filled with water and quit.Cannot recommend this timer.Gonna send it back if I can.
