Replacement was easy, once the knob is removed. Had to use a plier to hold the shaft at the back of old timer in order to pull the knob off. I think the main problem wasn't the timer but the lid switch. If one opens the lid and reaches in to the upper left corner, you'll file a metal rod. Move the lid and you'll feel it. Holding the lid, gently push said rod toward the back of the washer - not hard - gently. Then close the lid. If the rod has been push back enough, you'll hear the lid switch click. That solved our problem - after I had replaced the timer. Timer probably wasn't the problem at all.
