We installed one of these switches for our backyard exterior lights in 2007 and we're returning to buy a second one for our front lights. The switch has been maintenance free for 5 years. We set it once and forget it.The automatic daylight savings time feature might not sound like much but as more of the clocks and timers in our house become atomic or automatic, the twice annual switch becomes much less of a chore. Living in Minnesota, the difference in daylight from summer to winter is huge and this timer handles all the adjustments for us. It's like having a butler on staff. We get increased safety by having lights on when its dark yet we save on our electric bill too because we never forget to shut the lights off. The automatic adjustments really work well in our opinion. We actually bought a competitive product (GE Smart Digital Timer) and will replace it with this one as soon as possible because missing the daylight savings time switch was the final straw and because all the programming is completely manual, no automatic adjustment at all, a huge hassle in the spring and fall. If there is a next time, I'll be sure to get this model again and not assume other things that look and cost about the same have the same functionality. We've learned the hard way that they don't! I also think the switch is attractive so it's fine for the decor in my living room and kitchen.I wish I had this when my daughter was a teenager and we'd leave on the front light for her only to wake up and find she forgot to turn off the lights when she let herself in. Sometimes it was the next evening before we realized the lights had been left on. No such waste with this timer. I learned about this product when my brother-in-law died and our brother installed one for my sister so she wouldn't be coming home alone from work to a dark house. That brought her great comfort. There are lots of good reasons to leave on outside lights when its dark but few good reasons to leave them on during the day. This timer is like a little robot that does this one function really, really well.Update: The product just arrived and I've learned that I can't use this model with CFL bulbs or other electronic ballasts. I called Intermatic and learned that their model ST01C does work with CFLs (and also costs quite a bit more). When we first bought the timer for the backyard lights we had halogen bulbs. I always thought that the flickering of the lights that started when we replaced them with CFL flood lights was due to the CFL but now the timer manufacturer customer service guy said it might also be due to the switch being incompatible with the bulbs. They told me the bulbs won't last as long and I might damage the switch. Heads up on this detail.Let me preface this by saying that I am really amazed that it is 2007 and NO COMPANY has come up with a thoroughly easy to operate, easy to install, and thoroughly reliable DIGITAL WALL TIMER...especially one that is reasonably priced.I had the old version of this Intermatic with the knob on front. It wasnt digital but it worked well and was easy to indstall withstandard switch plates. These timers are made for DECORA plates (the ones with big holes). This means that for as many as you will nistall, you will have to consider hte location of that switch in your plate (I HAD ALL 3 GANG PLATES FOR MY OUTSIDE LIGHTS) and you will have to buy snap together plates tso you don't have to change out all switches to decora. You may have to order these in advance to create your own configurations. THESE TIMERS have been in use for only two months now and so far they are reliable but they have gitched on me and not come on a few times. I just turn the breaker off and on or fiddle with it and it comes on -- I don't know what the problem is but it worked soI taped paper over the timer with a sign that said DO NOT TOUCH .I have read other reviews that sight problems like this. THE READ OUT is for SUPERMAN vision! Really a poor display that is not adequately backlit. SET THE TIMERS BEFORE YOU INSTALL.YOU WILL ENCOUNTER LOTS OF FRUSTRATION SETTING THIS TIMER but once it is done, set it and forget it. Installing can be tricky. It is a three wire timer and my house is only three years old but "monkey rigged" by an electrician who was too lazy to individually ground each switch so he ran one bare wire in back of all three and tapped the switch screw onto that wire. For this simple task, I ended up hiring an electrician to make sure it was done right. The wires are coded in blue, red and black and did not match the standard back and white of my, and most houses. I looked for a long time and this was the most reasonably priced timer in it's class although it is probably not the most reliable or functional friendly. You get what you pay for but I continue to use these at my home that remains vacant while I am on assignment over 2000 mles away so I do have more than 75% trust in them and soemone to check on my home each week to let me know if they stop functioning properly. B PLUSI got tired of turning our courtyard lights on/off daily so decided I needed a timer. I went with this one because our house is 5 yrs old and the timer originally installed for front and garage lights is a Intermatic control. The Intermatic online video instruction on youtube shows you step by step how to install this for either single or multiple lights. It's really easy! The instructions to program take some reading however there is a step by step youtube video for that too! The screen is small and it's easier if you use the eraser on a pencil or something to hit the buttons. Once you set it up, your good to go!As I said, the one we previously had battery went dead. I could tell it was the original so first time in 5 yrs it had to be changed.... I swapped it out very quickly and it never lost it's programming. So if your battery is low, buy a new one first and swap it out quickly to save your settings.I just now ordered my 3rd so will have 4 timers! I'm not sure why it says it doesn't work with LED lights however that is all I use and everything appears to work just fine, no issues. It might be tricky with a single outlet box since it takes up space but it can be done. With multiples, you can just move the wiring behind the other switches to make room.I love this product. I have bought 3 of them. Easy to program. Love the Dusk/Dawn feature so that I don't have to keep changing my on/off times throughout the year.Received in time. However I wanted to control a Broan wall heater and this product wasn't designed for it.love that I only had to do setup once and now it turns on at sunset everyday. Love itGreat product!
