OK! So, when I got the light, I was VERY impressed with the build quality. The lighting is amazing, the fit was perfect for what I needed.. The only issue I had was the controller and a button failure/programming issue. The light has a digital controller that sets a TON of different settings based on time for EACH spectrum of lights (White, Blue, and "Special"/red). You set the time for each setting as well, its not pre-locked. Dawn, Sunrise, Midday, Sunset, Dusk and Night. So you set up each of these for all 3 colors. VERY nice! The only issue I had was that for the "Moonlight" setting was that I had set it at some percentage other than 1% and the red at 1%, white at 0%. The blue can be at either 1% or 0%, but the others HAVE to be at 0%. Not a big issue, just different. After only having it on my coral for a day, my GSP, mushroom, and some orange coral I dunno what exactly it is, had opened up and seem waaaay happier than when I picked them up at the fish store.I have this installed in my Biocube 14 hood (gutted the old lighting system and epoxied it to the hood). PERFECT lighting with the light intensity set a little lower (otherwise its STUPID bright!!).Regarding customer service/the bad button:I contacted support for MicMol(sp?) on a SUNDAY, and got a response within a couple of hours!! Very helpful, making sure I had all of my settings correct to make sure there weren't any other issues, and then told me they were going to send me a new controller due to a faulty button.^ All of this was on Sunday, 5/13.The most impressive customer service I have ever experienced. It is now the 17th (Thursday) (like 5/17), and they shipped that controller from HONG KONG expedited!!THAT is amazing customer service!! You guys are FANTASTIC!Thank you so much! When I first got the light, I thought the controller was faulty because it didn't ramp up or down as I had programmed it, and I saw other reviews about faulty controllers. I contacted Jessica at MicMol, and she walked me through the programming needed to get the desired lighting. After the corrections, the light worked exactly as expected. One thing I should say is that these lights are BRIGHT at 100%. Until we get more tall plants and hiding spots for our 2 bluegills, the max midday setting is at 30%, which is still good for the plants in the tank to grow well. The controller itself is not the most user-friendly. It takes some patience to scroll through options and change parameters, and there's no way to scroll back once you move forward. You have to start over if you make an input error and scroll ahead. This would be my only suggestion for improvement. We've had the light for about a week, with no problems after we got the programming right. So far very happy with the lights. Bought 2 for my 8ft 200 gallon tank. These were 72 watts each. I had 96 watt actinic plus 96 watt 50/50. So each 72 watt lamp replaces my old 192 watt lamp. Since I have 2, tank light is now 144watts instead of 384watts. On one picture, left side is the old 192watt and right side is micmol 72watt set at 90% brightness. Not even 100% and it is much brighter than my 196watt. Second picture both lights are micmol 72 watt set at 90%.I ordered 2 marine lights and what arrived was 1 planted and one marine. I guess everyone makes mistakes. It was easily returned and replaced. The control is a little tedious to use as indicated by reviewers. Once you get used to it, it was fairly easy with lots of programming set points. Got rid of my old bulky ac timers. Would of been nicer if the wire between the lamp and controller were longer for my setup.I didn't use any of the mounting hardware as it was made to sit on the edge of the tank. I cut a few small blocks of wood with grooves and made my own mini C-clamps with screws that would hold the lamps on my canopy. Lamps are not running hot. I have 4 small fans. Might decide to shut 2 down since I no longer need to get the heat out of 384watts. Canopy of course is also much lighter now.Old and new pics...I have a 30 gal. tall salt water tank and a T5 lighting system. I read other reviews on this and my biggest fear was the programming. Not that bad, just take your time and be patient. Since there's 6 times of day/ night settings and white/ blue/ and special lights to set its a total of 18 settings... figured it out and done in 15 min. Beautiful light and so slim. Using the "screen" method to slowly acclimate my corals to led lights. Start of with four pieces of window screen on the glass and remove one every 3 or 4 days. Hope this has helped. I've only had it for a week, only 2 more pieces of screen to go. Oh and if you lose power it keeps your settings, was scared of that too.If you can't afford to spend $500 to $1000 on your aquarium lighting this is the way to go. It has preset lighting intensities for those who don't want to have to mess with the different settings and also features a customizable mode so you can create your own. I've been using it for 4 months now and it hasn't failed.Love the brightness. The instructions are terrible. It literally says set clock to local time. Doesn’t tell you how. Contact the company and they direct you to a YouTube link? Really. And the mount to place it on the tank is one of the poorest mounts I’ve ever seen.Update: I’m an idiot. Light seems to be working fine now. The connection between the control box and light was difficult to connect and was not fully connected. The connection has one flat side and if it’s not lined up properly, the light will still plug in most of the way and turn on but is very dim leading to much frustration.Old review:Returning. Lights were extremely dim right out of the box, even on brightest setting and then sporadically shut off completely. Messaged customer service, no response so far.So I just installed my light. First impression was really impressive. The light is heavy, made of steel. Seems to be really good quality. I am loving how bright it is it looks wicked.Setting it up and programming it took some figuring out, of course I didn't look online for the video demos. Which would have made it go faster. Also it would have been nice if there was instructions in the box. But I guess now a days everything is online. Anyways it was simple once I got going. When I bought this thing I actually had no idea it had a timer and sun set and sun rise and all that. I just liked the price. But now that I see it has all these features plus a wicked price, I am blown away. There is only one teeny tiny thing I can't figure out.At this particular time I have my whites set to 70% and blues at 80%. But once it's back at the main menu it says "w:61% b:74%" it makes me wonder why i wasted all that time making a schedule if it isn't going to follow it? Maybe I am doing something wrong.Other than that, this is a steller light! Definitely recommend. This was a hard review to write... after using the micmol aqua air 600 48 watt for about 6 months I was initially super impressed. The quality and finish is awesome. Unfortunately there is a but...because this light uses .5w leds it has a very hard time penetrating the water surface. I had lots of issues with my corals I was buying. I couldn’t figure it out. All my parameters were amazing including calcium magnesium and alkalinity. Finally I bought a par meter to measure the light and to my disappointment in my 18” deep tank I found it to only produce a poor par reading of 80 at the surface to 40 par mid tank and 17 part at the substrate. This was causing my corals positioned mid to low to loose colour and only partially open. I’m new to the hobby since early this year and so far have loved it. But if I could redo some of my purchases I would have purchased higher output/quality equipment to begin with instead of trial and error trying to make a budget build work and having to purchase things twice.Live and learn I guess. The Lights are great my corals are doing great, I can't complain. But they could of done better with the remote or display it's time consuming to program. If you made a mistake in setting sunrise or sunset you have to start all over to reset it. That's why I didn't give it a five star.I've recently got the the AA600. Great quality and build, the programming is doable after getting used to the menu system. It is installed over 29 gallon tank (18'' height). No issues with growing softies (mushrooms, clove polyps, GSP) or LPS (chalice, hammer) down on the sandbed, great coloration and growth. In fact, had to back off the intensity a bit at first and am currently running it on 90% blue/60% white/30% special at peak. For PAR, I measured 70 on the sandbed (center of tank), 90 in the middle and 120 at the top, at full intensity. This is with the G2 version of the light, Micmol now has G3 version which is even bit more powerful with better LED setup, spectrum-wise.Purchased a couple other LED lights before I landed on this one. Metal body, with great light quality. This is the 36-48 inch version which fits perfectly on my 36 inch long tank. For reference my tank is 36x12x24. The setup using the lcd screen and buttons is a bit of a pain but once it is setup you don't have to change it. Happy with my purchase and i do recommend it.
