Great for 30 seconds.I LOVE using these for my PE classes. It allows for me to direct the students to “take a break” during those tough moments, and gives them a visual on their time remaining until they have the opportunity to come back into the activity. Helpful for me as well, so I have one less thing to focus on and can stay accountable on not keeping a student out for too long.DURABLE- these have been slung around my gymnasium over a dozen times through the school year and they don’t break beyond what some little floor tap can bandaid up. Both layers are THICK plastic which is nice because nothing is going to be shattered. I’ve only had minor cracks during tantrums when students have spiked them into the ground.I wish they weren’t so expensive (or they were bundled together better so u got more for the money instead of having them be $10+ for each one but still worth it.The Teacher Created Resources 1 Minute Sand Timer is a durable, accurate, moderately large and stable (i.e., does not tip easily) sand timer. It is perfect for encouraging kids to brush their teeth and for timing activities that divide up into 1 minute intervals. Just flip the timer each time it empties to reset for another minute. This timer is best suited for activities that take up to 4 minutes to complete. I use it for teeth brushing and also for Dungeons & Dragons role-playing games. In the latter case, if players are taking too long to make a decision, I pull out this timer and tell them they have 1 minute to make up their minds (sometimes 2 minutes, if I'm feeling generous). It's a great way to apply pressure to speed things along and keep the game from getting bogged down, especially when playing with easily-distracted kids. It can also be used for impromptu character penalties, such as telling a player that his/her character is blind, immobilized, unconscious, etc. for a certain number of minutes, instead of a number of turns. Sometimes, a time-based penalty works better than keeping track of turns, and watching/flipping the timer gives that character something to do, while creating a sense of tension/drama for the rest of the party as they try to compensate for the handicap for a set amount of time.Anyway, whatever your needs, this is a good choice in an accurate, durable, easy-to-see (colorful) sand timer. Mine clocked in at almost exactly 60 seconds, so I would even trust it for precise cooking purposes if that's your goal. Of course, it you're timing multiple-minute activities, you just have to be diligent about flipping it the moment the upper glass runs out.I got the ten-minute timer years ago, and it ended up being around 11 minutes. I used it every day 6 classes a day to start off with ten minutes of reading at the start of class. A student knocked it off my desk, and it broke.Last month, I re-purchased, and my sixth-graders quickly let me know it was way off, and clocked it at 7 minutes 51 seconds. They are extremely disgruntled to be cheated out of more than two minutes of reading daily, so now I don’t use it anymore.I bought these for use in an office environment for various "time checks" and they are both big enough to be seen and the colors are distinctive enough so you don't need to look at the top to tell what duration you are using from the other side of a conference room (30 feet). You can't quite resolve time remaining from far away, and these "suffer" the usual issues of sand timers (cant reset them quickly. they don't alarm when they are done, and it is difficult to tell how much time is remaining by look) but I was looking for these features, so I got what I was expecting :-)They seem pretty durable (they have survived drops from 3-4 feet onto carpeted concrete flooring)As for some faults (the only reasons these are 5/5 stars) One of mine (the 1min) has end caps that aren't "aligned" (in that laying the timer on its side has one end resting on an edge while the other is resting on a side) And the end caps are "glued tight" so I don't want to risk a diy fix. This is really the only reason I gave this 4/5 The 1 min timer is 50 seconds and the 2 min timer is 2:09. I didn't expect them to be super accurate, but the 3, 5 and 10 min timers are all pretty spot on. This doesn't impact my needs, but it might be useful info for others.I would certainly buy these again.I bought these for use in an office environment for various "time checks" and they are both big enough to be seen and the colors are distinctive enough so you don't need to look at the top to tell what duration you are using from the other side of a conference room (30 feet). She is 4,5 years old and 5 minutes is sufficient enough that she can focus on the task of putting on her own clothes. To be honest it started to make her more anxious as she is now nervous about not finishing by the time the sand all falls down. so we stoped using it for a while. But otherwise a good tool for preschoolers to stay on track with tasks on time.Got this to use for my son at Time out. He understands he has to sit in his chair till the sand ends. Good durability as he has thrown it a couple times out of anger. Wish I got a 3 minute timer. LolÓtimo produto para acompanhamento visual do tempo, e em material seguro para crianças.I like the size and that it's colored sand, but I have checked it three times and it is supposed to be a minute, but it is 1 minute AND 5 seconds.... Which isn't a huge deal unless you were looking for a ONE minute timer.Format d'une bon ne dimension pour une main d'homme.Bel objet à tenir dans sa mainM'incite à utiliser mon rince bouche pendant une bonne minute
