I got this mainly as an alarm clock because I had been using my cell phone which started to randomly turn itself off at 3am every week or so. This can have two separate alarms which is convenient when you want to have a permanent wake-up plus the option of a different alarm. You can use either the radio or one of several preset alarm sounds (I recommend the preset sounds which can be set to a very low volume which gradually increases - I use the birdsong myself). The display and the nightlight brightness have to be set manually, so if you want to be able to see the time during the day but also not having it glaring at you while trying to sleep you'll have to set it yourself when you get up and go to bed. The radio is okay if you just want to have some background noise but the speaker is way too small if you are looking for good sound quality. The only real problem I"ve encountered is with the 'nap' function which allow you to set a timer to wake you up after either 10, 30, 60, 90, or 120 minutes. The timer works fine, but when the alarm goes off and you then cancel it, there is a residual hum/whine coming from the speaker which doesn't go away unless you turn on the radio and then turn it off again. This only happens with the 'nap' function and doesn't affect the regular alarms so I rarely have to deal with it.
