Fourth time's the charm...looks like this one's a keeper!I suffer from dry eyes and also experience recurrent corneal erosions in my left eye. I've used microwavable "beanbag" eye masks for relief, but the heat dissipates so quickly from them that I get a treatment lasting 5 minutes at most. Same with microwave-heated dampened washcloths. I wanted something that would stay hot/warm for a longer time, so I decided to try a powered heated mask. The first heated eye mask I tried (by Ezona) was way too big for my face. It had hardly any cutout/contour for the nose and when I positioned it so the heat was where I wanted it, the mask pressed down uncomfortably on my nose. The elastic strap that held it on scraped against the tops of my ears. It was too uncomfortable/painful for me and I returned it.The second one I tried (by Aroma Season) was much narrower and fit my face well. It covered my eyes sufficiently and didn't hurt my nose. The heat worked well. But it was a "beanbag" type mask filled with flax seeds and it pressed against my eyeballs when I had it on. I tried squeezing the centers with my thumbs to shift the filling more to the perimeter, but there wasn't enough "play" to make enough of an indentation to keep it from pressing against each of my eyeballs. My eyes were bloodshot and my vision was blurred after using the mask. If it weren't for it pressing against my eyes I would have loved that mask, but it was doing my eyes more harm than good so back it went. The third heated mask I tried (by CFENEYOL) was one of the huge plastic electronic gizmos with massage, vibration and music via bluetooth. The only thing I wanted/needed was the heat feature, but after reading reviews and the raves about the soothing massage feature I looking forward to trying it out. Nope, not for me. The device was very large and very heavy, comparatively speaking. It had a cutout/contour for the nose. But if I placed it so the heat was where I wanted it, its very wide elastic strap had to overlap the tops of my ears which was very uncomfortable. The weight of the mask tended to pull it downwards on my nose, pressing uncomfortably on the tip of my nose and taking the mask out of the position I wanted it in. And the soothing massage? It was awful! When the massage feature was on, air sacs within the mask inflated and rolled across my eyeballs...pressing down on them quite painfully. Repositioning the mask did no good to alleviate the pain; the massage function hurt! I found the vibration feature to be annoying. I never bothered with the bluetooth feature. The only feature that was of any interest/use to me was the heat. I didn't see any reason to spend so much for features I couldn't/wouldn't be using or for a mask that was uncomfortably heavy and had a strap that hurt my ears. So I returned that one as well. The Emacombo Heated Eye Mask is the fourth one I've tried. This is more of what I was looking for. The main thing I was after was an eye mask that would apply heat over/around my eyes continuously for at least 10 minutes at a time and that wouldn't hurt/be uncomfortable to wear. This Emacombo mask just has heat, which is what I wanted. It's flat so it doesn't press against my eyeballs when I'm wearing it and I don't have bloodshot eyes after using it. It has a removable cover that can be washed separately, which I appreciate. (The cover is supposedly silk; it certainly is soft and very comfortable and seems to be silk.) It has to remain plugged in to operate, but the 2-part cord is fairly long: the part that plugs into a USB outlet is 24 inches long, the part extending out from the upper left side of the mask is 7 inches long (total 31 inches). The longer part of the cord has the control switch on it. There are 4 heat settings on the left of the control and 4 time settings on the right. Each setting has a tiny indicator light that glows red beside the selected option. There are 2 buttons at the bottom of the control switch, one below the heat settings and one below the time settings. You press the button belowthe heat settings to select the heat option you want. Each press of the button advances to the next selection in sequence, so you just stop pressing when the light is on next to the selection you want. Likewise for the button on the right for the time settings. When your selected time setting has elapsed the unit shuts off automatically and the indicator lights on the control switch no longer glow. The next time you use it, if you press the heat selector button once to turn it on the control switch will show the same settings as you used the last time (degree of heat and time duration will be the same as when it was last used). So if you want the same settings each time you use the mask you will only have to set it once.I have been using this on the highest heat setting for 15 minutes twice a day. So far I am very pleased with it.I'm not giving it 5 stars because I've only had it a short while and don't know if it will prove to be durable or will start malfunctioning or die out after the return window has closed. At this point I am happy with the Emacombo mask and would recommend it.The mask arrived in less than 24 hours from Amazon. It came in a sturdy box but does not look like the one advertised; it is flimsier in appearance. The fabric is probably silk on one side, though I am not concerned about this. The sort of dry eye I have has meant that I wake up repeatedly and use gels, ointments, drops throughout the night. But, this mask, which I used on high for an hour, really did work for me. I would like to know more about the science of dry heat and dry eye since I assumed I would be getting a mask that I could use for "steaming," as advertised. Nowhere in the slim instructions is water or steam mentioned. I don't believe that it would be wise to use water with this mask, in fact. A number of masks on Amazon are being sold with the switch that is on this mask. In photos it looks large. In fact, it is tiny and the buttons are smaller than my finger tips, much smaller. The indicator lights that tell you that you about time and heat levels are invisible in day light or regular lighting in my home. Lights must be out, the room must be dark for the indicator lights (red) to be visible. I almost sent this back because I didn't see the lights and assumed that the switch was non-functional. My guess is that these masks are essentially the same, with padding being the one difference. This mask is padded on one side--adequately. I felt no wires and it heated my entire eye orbit area. I am glad to have it, but it has a couple of flaws. My optometrist suggested that I try a Bruder eye mask but me being fabulous, I wanted to order a silk electronic eye mask. I have really dry eyes due to clogged meibomian glands and was advised to use this twice a day for about 15 minutes and I should expect to see results in about two weeks in addition to other remedies. I like the eye mask because it is soft, had an adjustable head strap, and can be plugged in to a USB port or the wall if you add a cube to it. The cord is quite long so I am able to plug it in behind my bed and relax while using it.There is no on/off button but long pressing the temp button controls the power. There are 4 temp settings and 4 time settings to choose from. I’m not familiar with temperatures in Celsius so I had to google to convert to Fahrenheit. Also, I don’t know what the appropriate temp I should have it on but I turn it all the way up and lay flat in bed while listening to relaxing music or let a YouTube video play. The heat feels so good on my eyes and after a long day of working on a computer. I was advised to wear it for 15 minutes twice a day but I’ve worn this mask for at most 30 minutes at a time.I’m glad that I ordered this. I have no complaints honestly. The only thing I would suggest is maybe a cute case to keep the mask in to protect it. I’m extra cautious about making sure my face is clean and hygienic so I don’t break out. Whatever is inside the silk mask to heat it up (a thin piece of metal?) does seem like it would need to be handled with care. I just throw it in my nightstand once I’m done using it but a cute case would be nice. I have been using this for about a week and haven’t had to wash it yet but you can remove the outer silk covering and hand wash when needed with ease. This is an added step in my morning and night-time self care routine and I highly suggest it if you have dry eyes.Dry eyesI love this mask, but the cord is way to short. I used it when I got sick from Covid and my sinus cavities were closedThis is what I have been looking for when I have sinus headaches, I usually use for 30 minutes at 45Co and I am good.My husband had complained of dry, filmy eyes for a long time. Has been prescribed many meds that didn’t help. Finally using this product and washing his eyes with no tear baby shampoo has finally worked.
